Western Dance

In western dance class will be held twice in a week and evaluation will be conducted every month end and prizes will be awarded for the best three. This will encourage and motivate the children to bring out their innate talents. Every winter session dance shows will be performed in devarhall to prove our mettle before the audience.

Modern Western square dance (also called Western square dance, contemporary Western square dance, modern American square dance or modern square dance) is one of two American types of square dancing, along with traditional square dance. As a dance form, modern Western square dance grew out of traditional Western dance. The term "Western square dance", for some, is synonymous with "cowboy dance" or traditional Western square dance. Therefore this article uses the term "modern Western square dance" to describe the contemporary non-historical dance which grew out of the traditional dance.

Warm Up

Stretching is part of some warm up routines, although a study in 2013 indicates that it weakens muscles in that situation. There are 3 types of stretches: ballistic stretching, dynamic, and static stretching:

  • Ballistic Stretches involve bouncing or jerking. It is purported to help extend limbs during exercise, promoting agility and flexibility. However, this type of stretching may also cause injury and is not generally recommended.
  • Static Stretches involve flexing the muscles. This may help prevent injury and permit greater flexibility and agility. Note that static stretching for too long may weaken the muscles.
  • Dynamic Stretching involves moving the body part in the desired way until reaching the full range of motion, to improve performance.

Dance Floor Etiquette

Several types of dancing may take place simultaneously at country western dances. Progressive dancers use the outside of the floor. Swing and other non-progressive dancers are found either in the outside corners, or in the center of the floor, along with line dancers.
